I am so pleased! IKEA Hackers is one of my favourite sites to get ideas from and now I’m on it.
Having now been in our house for over four months I couldn’t face the idea of getting to Christmas without at least one room decorated. We’ve got lots of plans to have people round for meals and drinks so starting with the living room/ dining room seemed like the best idea. It’s also the only room that we’ve not got massive plans to change so the easiest one to start with and one that doesn’t involve us finding a plasterer.
Now I did put a little bit of thought into this room before we moved… I say ‘a little’, it would probably be more accurate to say a lot. I’ve been collecting a scrap-book for a while (as well as developing a house magazine addiction), so here’s some of the things that inspire how I’d like the room to look (note ‘I’ not ‘we’, Tom has his own ideas…). We decorated our first room this weekend! So pleased to have one done for Christmas. We’ve got friends coming for ‘fake Christmas dinner’ on Sunday so we want to be able to get the house all ready before then. Our front bedroom had fitted wardrobes which we hated so T had a great time ripping them out. We replaced them with a pair of IKEA wardrobes.
I have always wanted a dressing table, but I’ve never had one. I had my eye on a mirrored dressing table, something like this:
In the first in a series I’m going to call ‘Sam and T are bad at measuring-things-before-buying-them we bought a massive bed and left ourselves no room for bedside cabinets. But this turned out to be one of those problems that turns into something good.
I love the massive bed as much as I love sleep, but I also love having somewhere to charge my iPhone and put a glass of water… ok, it’s actually a sports bottle of Ribena. So a headboard with storage behind it seemed like the perfect solution, we just needed to find one. Continue reading
Except we’re not done. We now have a world of projects to take on.
We started looking at houses back in January (well, we’d both been slightly addicted to our Right Move apps for a while… years) and with the help of friends, family, colleagues and the lovely Ryan from Which? Mortgage Advisors we managed to navigate the process of being first time buyers. I planned to start this blog back at the beginning of buying Continue reading
T didn’t like the blue owl, but I think he now secretly loves it.
