Getting going on decorating the hall, stairs and landing

So we’ve now been in the house for just over seven months – I expected to have a lot more done by now! I’m sure all first time homeowners must feel this way. Just unpacking took a long time, never mind decorating or any rooms that need plastering etc. before we can get on with the fun stuff.

But we have finished one room (even though we’ve already got some plans to change things, more soon!). And now we’ve made a start on the hall, stairs and landing. Here’s the inspiration:

5 organising ideas I’m going to try this January

First thing on my list clearly needs to be posting more frequently! Don’t worry – Tom and I have lots of things planned for the house this year so there’ll be plenty to share.

It’s the month of New Year’s resolutions – how are yours going? I’m now 24 days into my dry January (can you tell by the counting that I’m struggling!), just one weekend to go :) The gym is also going well, I looked back on my running log from when I started at the end of 2011 and I’m really pleased to see some progress.

We’ve got lots of plans to have people round for meals and drinks so starting with the living room/ dining room seemed like the best idea. It’s also the only room that we’ve not got massive plans to change so the easiest one to start with and one that doesn’t involve us finding a plasterer.

Now I did put a little bit of thought into this room before we moved… I say ‘a little’, it would probably be more accurate to say a lot. I’ve been collecting a scrap-book for a while (as well as developing a house magazine addiction), so here’s some of the things that inspire how I’d like the room to look (note ‘I’ not ‘we’, Tom has his own ideas…). Sneak preview of the paint for our living room

We decorated our first room this weekend! So pleased to have one done for Christmas. We’ve got friends coming for ‘fake Christmas dinner’ on Sunday so we want to be able to get the house all ready before then. I’ll do a proper post later this week about the decorating and reveal the results of our labour.

For now, here’s a preview of the colours:
