O Christmas Tree

It seems that the done thing this week is to blog about our Christmas tree. Given that ours is our first tree in this house I think it is somewhat worthy of a post. But I don’t think the tree alone is really all that exciting so I’ve a few other treats to share.

First, our tree. Now as those of you who’ve set up home with a significant other will know – everyone has very defined ideas about Christmas, me included, and suggesting compromises to family traditions is a challenge. One thing we did agree on was getting a fake tree. One off cost. Space to store it in the attic. No pine needles to clear. Kittens can’t destroy it. Nice and symmetrical.

Easy. Except we’ve since discovered that 1) fake trees do shed, and 2) we essentially bought the best ever climbing tower for the kittens. Well I say ‘best ever’ – they do look terrified/ terrifying when they reach the top.

Next task was a wreath for the front door. I LOVE our front door. Apart from the security perspective (having a new build flat behind many doors did feel particularly safe), having a lovely front door right on our road makes me smile every day.

I used holly from the garden (a giant holly tree that needs some serious pruning, a post for another day), fake berries made with a broken necklace (I never throw anything away) and red nail polish, all wrapped around the frame from a tinsel wreath from Poundland.

This weekend we had a few people we’d not seen for a while for some Christmas drinks, so the living room got a little moreΒ accessorising:

PS – Did you spot the blue owls new spot on our mantelpiece?
